MP wants answers over Facebook boast
Scarborough’s MP has written to the Justice Secretary asking what can be done to punish boasting rapist Thomas Holmes.
Last week The Scarborough News exclusively revealed how Holmes bragged from behind bars on Facebook that he was enjoying a “long earned holiday”.
Now Robert Goodwill has penned a letter to fellow Tory Michael Gove, claiming the story caused anger in his constituency.
“(This case) has caused considerable stress to those involved in the case, not least the victim,” he states in his letter.
“There is some concern and distress in the area as to how people who behave in this way should be dealt with.”
“What are the penalties for having an illegal communication device in prison and what action can be taken against this particular offender who has caused such distress.”
Homes was jailed for 13 years for what York Crown Court heard was a prolonged, repeated attack against a woman who had just overcome a serious illness.
This week Holmes’ family reinforced their opinion to The Scarborough News that his account had been “hacked”.
However the Ministry of Justice had Facebook remove Holmes’ account from the site after he also laughed at the taxpayer for paying for his free meals.
The department is understood to be investigating how the mocking messages were posted over an 18-hour surfing session inside his Hull cell.
If the 43-year-old, from Oxcliff, is found to have posted the comments he could have another two years added to his already lengthy sentence.
