Amelia hoping for the sweet taste of success in contest
A Scarborough chocolate shop has been named as the only business in Yorkshire to make it through to the semifinals of a national competition.
Amelia Scholey, owner of Amelia’s Chocolate, will travel to London this week to battle it out in the Great British Spiced Chocolate Challenge.
The product is now on sale at the prestigious Selfridge’s store, as the prize for being a semi-finalist, and the top prize is a trip to Grenada.
Amelia saw the competition on Twitter and set about creating a new flavour.
She said: “As I’m not the biggest fan of spices I thought I’d do a chocolate tasting night to let other people taste a few different choices and see which was their favourite. I came up with Milk Chocolate Apple and Cinnamon Drops, Milk Chocolate Orange and Cloves, Dark Chocolate Wasabi drops and Winter Spice Chocolate drop.
“The Winter Spice and Orange and Cloves came joint top but after discussion it was decided that I would enter the Winter Spice as it was a spice competition.”
The product was judged last month and the finals are being held tomorrow at The Chocolate Show, at the Olympia National Hall, at 3pm.
Amelia said: “To say I am excited is an understatement!”
