Angler lands whopping legal bill

-

An angler has landed a whopping court bill after he was caught without a licence.

Alex Jordan packed his rod and some tackle for a day of fishing at Filey’s Primrose Valley.

But when the warden paid a visit, he was unable to produce the £27 permit.

The 20-year-old, who didn’t attend court, told Scarborough magistrates through a statement that he had been bought the licence as an “early birthday present” by his girlfriend’s parents, who own a caravan at the holiday park.

But the licence had seemingly expired – landing unemployed Jordan, from Hull, with a £337 bill from the court.

The case was brought to court by the Environment Agency, but in his statement Jordan accused the park of “double standards”.

That’s because he claims that after being scolded for not having the permit, he was still allowed to keep fishing for the rest of the afternoon of May 16.

He claimed others had told him they’d never needed a licence, adding: “They think it’s funny”.
