The Rev Liz Kitching led and presided at the 9.30am service of Holy Communion. Dot Francis read the account from Mark’s Gospel of the rich young man who came to Jesus, and pastoral assistant Wendy Haslam preached on disciplesh­ip, asking the challengin­g question: are there things in our lives which we value more than our commitment to Jesus? Jean Donovan led the intercessi­ons and assisted with the distributi­on of communion. Edna Burton accompanie­d the hymns. The sidespeopl­e were Doreen Livesey and Janet Lamb, and Julie Stephenson served refreshmen­ts.

The Rev Kitching also led the family service at 11am and spoke about God’s love for us all. The children assisted with the sermon as they decorated and assembled a banner which read, ‘God so loved the world that he sent his one and only Son’ - wellknown words from John’s Gospel. Steve Raettig (keyboard) led the sung worship with Chloe and Esme Raettig (percussion), and Esme also gave the Bible reading. Liz Cremer was the sidesperso­n and Julie Hall served coffee. Autumn fair St Martin’s Church is holding its annual autumn fair on Saturday October 24 from 2pm4pm in the Memorial Hall, Main Street, Seamer. Stalls will include tombola, books, cakes, raffle, bric-abrac and handicraft­s. Admission will be £1 for adults to include tea, coffee and cake. Children go free.
