Women’s fellowship

The Cayton Women’s Fellowship met in Cayton chapel for a harvest celebratio­n. Their president, Gwenyth Russell, led the celebratio­ns with help from Margaret Welsh, Ann Green, Julie Barber and Dorothy Anfield.

Jane Allen was the organist and two solos were sung by Jennifer Atkinson. Following the meeting refreshmen­ts of cheese and crackers; apple pie and biscuits were served by Jane Williams and Margaret Welsh.

The fellowship will be holding their next meeting in Cayton Chapel at 2.15pm on Tuesday October 20 when their speaker will be Mrs R Robson who will speak about the work of the Save The Children charity.

New members are always very welcome at the fellowship meetings. Sgt Chris Gosling and one member of the public.

A letter of resignatio­n was received from former chairman Cllr Amanda Evirgen on account of her family’s removal to Newcastle. Cllr Hemmingham was appointed to act as temporary chairman until the next meeting. Cllr Holdsworth took the minutes.

Sgt Gosling reported that there had been no recent crime incidents in the village, PCSO Rowland Baxter was returning after illness and PCSO Sue Rowley was deployed elsewhere.

County Cllr Tony Randerson said that accidents to pedestrian­s on the closed part of Filey Road were the responsibi­lity of the landowner. Borough Cllr Green reported on the 60 houses which could be built on the field in Osgodby Lane which is not a green belt area. Borough Swiers said that the seat at the hilltop would be repaired by the borough council.

The grass has now been cleared on the public footpath from the Poacher’s Barn to the bridge and a gardener will attend to the remainder. Cllr Robinson reported on the £500 grant received from the Southern Cluster Group for the memorial garden and circulated before-and-after photograph­s of the planting which has been done and of the large urn in the centre of the garden.

Concern was expressed about the cattle now grazing in a field close to the new road; the farmer will be contacted

Further informatio­n is to be sought from Eastfield Parish Council who have asked the village council if it would contribute towards the £700 cost of the provision of a Boxing Day bus service.
