Scarborough Flooring Division One looks set to be very competitive as the Scarborough Table Tennis League, which starts this week.

All sides are capable of taking points against each other, especially with the new scoring system that rewards each team a point for every rubber won.

A tough baptism awaits newly-promoted Hackness B, who face the champions in their opening fixture followed by a derby against their A side.

Despite losing one of their key players in Toby Waterhouse The Hit Squad will be favourites to retain the title.

Both Richard Dent and Ross Dransfield look impressive in pre season training.

Dransfield finished a credible third in the averages last season with Dent in fifth spot.

Bridlington Old Boys have signed Mike Fenby, making a welcome return to the league.

Ravenscar have merged with Hackness to become Hackness A, and their ti- tle challenge has had a great boost with the signing of Neil Raine from Nomads.

If Ashley Hodgson remains available for selection, they could make a title bid.

Last season, Hodgson had put an end to Martin Lowe’s unbeaten league run and he remains his only credible challenger.

Lowe’s young side Rolo could improve on their third spot last season.
