We need to believe in ourselves

-

The big question for myself and Bryan Hughes is currently how we bring ourselves out of this current blip. Fortunately we have our experiences as players that we can dig into. What we would have done and what our previous managers would have done.

As a player when my back was against the wall I was somebody who came out fighting. I always stood up and made sure that I was counted.

That is what we want from the lads.

If the captain is out then we want somebody else to stand up.

It is about taking responsibility.

If your fellow striker isn’t scoring then one of the others needs to bust a gut to put the ball in the net.

The same goes for every player right across the park.

Our confidence has taken a knock, but we have to grit our teeth and keep going or we are not going to get out of this.

We have had a blip, now we have to put it right.

You could see on Saturday when they scored that our heads dropped, the crowd dropped, in fact everything at Scarborough Athletic dropped.

The lads can do it, they showed us that last season, they just have to believe that they can on a Saturday.

Our training sessions have been brilliant, you can see the lads buzzing when we are working them on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

That mentality has to be taken into Saturday’s game, we have to remain positive.

Maybe the lads, especially the strikers, have been trying a bit too hard to get those goals.

You have to look at Gary Bradshaw, who wants to win for me, Bryan, Scarborough Athletic and also himself.

He has been working his socks off to get into positions, but when the ball has fallen to him maybe he has been snatching at it a little of late.

We have two games coming up against Radcliffe and Harrogate Railway that we would have been focusing on as games to win at the start of the season.

At the moment though we would take a win anywhere, just to get us back on track.

I’d take a 1-0 win on Saturday because that would give us the three points and the clean-sheet.

That would be the perfect platform to push on and move back up the league table.
