Tipping the scales at over 20st, Scarborough student Alfie Mulroy decided to try to shed some weight.

Eight months later and eight stone lighter, the trainee teacher had transformed his shape – and his love life.

The trim 21-year-old landed the girl of his dreams, and has spoke of his pride after going from chunk to hunk.

“I am 10 times more confident and I have found a girlfriend that I am in love with,” said Alfie, who said he never thought he was worth “pulling” while overweight.

He decided to start jogging in the park due to sky-high gym fees, running four times a week while the pounds rapidly dropped off.

“I loved it,” added Alfie. “Hearing praise off people kept me from falling off the bandwagon.”

And over the months Alfie stuck to his New Year resolution to go from super-sized to super-fit, falling from 20st 2lbs to a healthy 12st 3lbs.

At the start of that journey he met girlfriend Bridget Gallagher through friends.

“After we first met I didn’t really see Alfie through the summer and I didn’t see any photos of him,” said the 21-year-old.

“I then saw him in the September and I couldn’t believe my eyes. He had this chiselled jaw, big quiff and I just couldn’t believe the change.”

The pair, who are both still studying in Lancashire, have recently marked their first anniversary.

Alfie said: “When I saw her for the first time I was blown away but I didn’t act because I didn’t have the confidence.

“It was horrible. I would never admit that I was unhappy.” But he now claims his confidence – and happiness – have improved.
