Monuments at risk list is launched
The North York Moors National Park Authority is celebrating the achievements of its Monument Management Scheme as the 2015 Heritage at Risk register is launched this week by Historic England.
The new register includes 54 of the national park’s 841 scheduled monuments - a huge reduction from the 198 which were at risk when the scheme began in 2009.
Since then the authority has been working in partnership with Historic England to improve the condition of scheduled monuments.
A scheduled monument is an archaeological site, such as a prehistoric burial or field system, an abbey or a castle, which is considered to be nationally important and is protected in law.
