This Saturday Scarborough Mere AC’s junior section is contesting a match with the club’s ladies at Primrose Valley Lake.

The draw is scheduled for the later time of 10am prior to fishing 11am until 3pm with entry free of charge for the juniors and £7 pools for the ladies.

Full details are available from Andy MacCallaugh on 507588 and Penny Tiley on 07966 261708.

On Saturday October 31 the ladies section are staging its final summer series open fixture at the Mere Match Lake, draw 9am fishing 10am to 3pm, prior to holding their presentation evening at the Anglers Social Club, Friarsway on Saturday November 14, to which all members are cordially invited.

As usual the upstairs room at the Anglers Social Club will also host the club’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday December 1 when eligible members are reminded that voting is strictly by a show of membership cards.

A reminder also that members wishing to place a proposition before the meeting should submit it in writing, duly signed by themselves and a seconder, and ensure it arrives with the honorary secretary no later than the first Tuesday in November.

The same rule also applies to nominations for places on the club’s committee, all correspondence will be dealt with at the meeting and any amendments to committee recommended proposals will be notified to the membership within the next couple of weeks.

Phil Roberts, the near 50lb winner of Westland AC’s Friday sortie to Raker’s Acorn Lake, was mildly surprised to find that despite the seasonal declining water temperatures, the paste approach was apparently still the most effective method.

Carp to 5lb and a solo 1.5lb chub helped him open up a 15lb lead over runner-up Colin McNeil after he presented his paste and occasionally sweetcorn hookbaits via the pole at 11 metres over regular minimal introductions of potted in micro pellets, hempseed and the odd grain of corn.

Result: 1. Phil Roberts 4910-0 from peg 9. 2. C.McNeil 34-12-0, peg 17; 3. J.Collier 2512-0, peg 5; 4. B.Pallister 2012-0, peg 18; 5. W.Newsome 12-0-0, peg 13; 6. T.Tierney 114-0, peg 3.
