Flying Viking Anderson shines in Marist win
The Scarborough RUFC Vikings were looking to avenge an opening game defeat to Marist as the Hull side travelled to Silver Royd.
With last weeks hat-trick hero Chris Mabbott captaining the side, Scarborough recieved the kick-off and immediately pushed into opposition territory.
After a couple of infringements by Marist, Mabbott, with his forwards supporting, bulldozed his way over the line for a 5-0 lead.
Further Scarborough pressure followed and a quick tap from first-team regular Martin Robinson put Joe Lenton through for a try.
Robinson converted for the extras.
The Scarborough pack continued to make ground with a series of bullocking runs from Mark Hopper, James Emsley and Jack Ireland, Scarborough dominated the territory.
Following a period of physical exchanges a flurry of tries came in the last 10 minutes of the half.
A second for Mabbott, one for Alex Renwick and after good work from the pack, flying Viking Jack Anderson got in on the action.
At half-time the score was 31-0 to the dominant Vikings.
Early on in the second half, with the wind behind them marist, had their first possession in the Scarborough 22, and looked a completely different team.
After a few minutes of pressure Marist coughed up the ball and against the run of play Scarborough broke from their own line.
A sweet pass from Jordan Day and some excellent strength from Renwick released Anderson for his second try, which was converted for 38-0.
In the 50th minute Scarborough struck again as Robinson majestically cruised through the defence on half-way and a couple of quick passes sent Renwick in for a double.
Marist were now looking like a beaten side and tempers were beginning to fray on the pitch, but Scarborough stuck to their task and troubled the scoreboard again when good work by Lenton, returning from a sin-bin, put Anderson through on the wing to cruise through under the posts for his hat-trick.
Robinson converted to bring up the 50-point mark in tidy fashion.
Scarborough’s next try came courtesy of a break from the scrum by number eight Guy Woodward, showing silky hands to offload for Lenton to score and Robinson added the extras for 57-0.
A period of to-and-fro followed with both packs putting in a solid shift but finally Scarborough broke the stalemate again.
Woodward, showing his fitness late in the game, took the ball forward and delicately chipped for Lenton to score.
Scarborough followed quickly with more good hands releasing second team veteran Andy Baird for a quick sprint in for a try which was converted to round off the 69-0 victory.
