Positivity will get us back on track
The main thing at the moment for us is the fact that the players are 100% behind both me and Paul Foot and they are desperate to get us out of this situation.
I can remember when I was at Charlton Athletic in the Premier League and our manager Alan Pardew had a similar backing, his positivity brought the best out of the players.
We ended up being relegated, but we gave ourselves a chance with some great results and great performances.
At this stage it is early stages in the current season, but the fact that we haven’t won in our last eight league games doesn’t make good reading.
We need to keep believing and we also need to get that one win that will immediately breed the confidence in the players and our supporters.
I thought Tuesday’s draw with Harrogate Railway was something to build on because for an hour we played really well.
You could see the desire from the lads on that pitch, which is what we want to see and what the fans want to see.
The emphasis is on the strikers at the moment to score goals and rightly so.
In my own career I have seen a lot of great strikers who have gone through these barren patches, but unbelievably all four of our regular frontmen are struggling with the same thing.
These are all proven strikers though, so we know that they will come good.
We just have to have the confidence to hit the target and the rest will follow.
You can see marked improvements over the past couple of games. There has been a nice little partnership forming between Ryan Blott and Tom Corner.
Ryan may be lacking match fitness because he hasn’t played too much, but he has made an impact since he has come back in, all he needs now are the goals.
We have brought many of these lads into the club and we have played alongside the rest.
They don’t just want to get out of this position for me and Paul, but also because they have the pride in their own performances.
Nobody likes being in this sticky situation, but you can see glimpses of where we were before when we started the season so well.
We have a mountain to climb if we are to push back up the table to where we want to be, but you can never say never.
We all have to put a shift in together as a club now.
