What a great event for pupils and students ... the latest Scarborough Engineering Week began with a specially-kitted out truck at Plaxton, and now takes over the Grand Hall and adjoining areas of the Scarborough Spa. Many companies, and the Spa leaseholders SIV, give free support to this remarkable event, which provides a showcase for young people to leave the classroom and see industry at first hand. Over the six years of Engineering Week, many thousands of youngsters have been entertained and educated by the displays of the exhibitors. They have been able to ask questions and see for themselves the practical applications of the maths and science theory that they learn at school or college. This year also, many pupils took part in a robot challenge. If any, if just one, of those youngsters become an engineer or inventor as a consequence of this great event, the entire efforts were worthwile.
