Super six complete Lisbon events

-

Six club veteran athletes led by chairman Harry Forkin, competed once again in top European marathons and half marathons, and this year they travelled to Portugal to compete in the Lisbon Marathon and Half Marathon races.

The races were a fixture of the worldwide Rock and Roll series of races, which attract large entries competing in races which as the name implies offer lots of musical entertainment on the race route.

At Lisbon the runners could also enjoy courses with spectacular coastal and city views.

In the marathon, Ralph Broadley clocked 3 hours 47 and was the third over-65.

He was closely followed by Dave Fox, who finished sixth over-65 in 3.49.

Both have now gained qualification for automatic entry in the 2016 London Marathon in April as ‘Good for Age’ athletes.

In the accompanying half marathon, four of the club’s veterans achieved some of the best times of 2015 by club members in their respective age groups.

Fifty-seven-year-old Geoff Cromack headed the quartet and clocked a superb time of 104.03.

He was followed by 64-year-old Mally Sweetlove with 114.01 and 69-year-old Harry Forkin in 120.44.

Fifty-three-year-old Melanie Padgham also recorded an impressive time of 137.46 at the event.
