Teenager to embark on a journey to teach in Vietnam

A teenager is preparing for an internatio­nal adventure and is raising money for the journey of a lifetime to Vietnam.

Soony Brookes, 18, finished his A-Levels at Scarboroug­h Sixth Form College in June and has been saving up for a three-month trip to Vietnam to teach English to native school children.

With a £750 bursary from Lattitude Global Volunteeri­ng, the company he is travelling with, Soony has been working hard throughout the summer to raise money for the journey which he embarks on in February.

He has raised approximat­ely £4,000 of the £5,000 total so far.

Soony said: “I want to do my placement in a country that has a very different culture to England.

“V i e t n a m h a s a va s t number of stunning sights to see and I would really like to be able to visit some of these location on my time off.

“I think that a teaching placement would be a really enjoyable one. I imagine that it will be fun getting to know the students and to l earn a b o ut V i e t n a m t h r o u g h them.

“I am really looking forwa r d t o i t , me e t i n g t h e chil dren and exchanging cultures with them.”
