Chance to tackle food waste
Sainsbury’s in Scarborough is calling for residents and community groups in the area to nominate their town to become a test bed for cutting down food waste.
The £1 million investment wil l be go t o benef i t s o mewhere that has a population of between 15,000 and 300,000 and a Sainsbury’s store within a five mile radius.
The plan is to trial ideas such as food trackers in fridges, reward programmes to encourage recycling and educational programmes.
Rob Brookes, store manager at the Falsgrave store, said: “We know that waste – and particularly food waste – is a big challenge for households and it’s something our customers really care about. It would be re- ally great if Scarborough area could benefit from this new initiative. We’re here to help anyone that wants to find out more about applying.”
The closing date for applications is 11.59pm on Friday October 30 and the winner will be notified by December 1.
