Tributes paid to a prolific letter writer
Tributes have flooded in for a renowned letter writer famous in the town for his letters to The Scarborough News.
Michael Maxwell, of Falsgrave, has been described by his daughters as articulate, witty and opinionated.
Writing l etters all of his l i fe, Michael kept i n touch with friends and family through letter and cards and even found himself writing to the then MP.

A keen cricket player himself, he carried on playing until he was 55.
His daughter, Clare, said: “He was very articulate, very clever and very opinionated and we loved him dearly.”
Clare was a teacher at Yorkshire Coast College until 2001 and says he practically adopted her students who turned to him for advice.
Clare said: “[He was] simply one of the most thoughtful, sensitive and compassionate people ever. He made us proud.”
Ad o r e d b y f a mi l y an d friends, Michael will be greatly missed along Falsgrave for his wit and lovable cheekiness.
Famous for his letters, it is fitting he even wrote a final set of letters to his daughters, Clare and Helen, titled ‘When I am gone.”
Michael ends the letter to his daughters with: “As long as you keep me in your hearts I will live forever.”
