Guitarist returns for jazz session at the Cask
Wednesday November 4, 8.45pm Scarborough Jazz presents John Etheridge, an eclectic player who refuses to accept that music has boundaries.
Described by Pat Metheny as “one of the best guitarists in the world”, John made his name in the seventies with Soft Machine. His career has seen him collaborate with some of the finest players in the World including, Stephan Grapelli, John Williams, Barney Kessell, Pat Metheny, Dizzie Gillespie and Nigel Kennedy, with whom he performed at the 2014 Scarborough Jazz Festival.
While always in demand as a solo performer John is also a member of the Zappatistas, a band which celebrates the music of Frank Zappa.
He will be joined at the Cask by drummer Dave Tyas and bassist Ben Crosland to present an evening of unbridled guitar passion from lilting ballads, through intricate South African rhythms and hard-hitting jazz to some edgy blues.
