Nigel Hargreaves, who runs the Contemptible Winter League at Primrose Valley, is organising a winter series at Rosedale Lake to start this Sunday.

The series will be fished as eight open matches with no upfront l ea g ue e ntr y f e e s , however league points are to be awarded with a cash prize and a trophy on offer to the winner courtesy of fishery proprietor Peter Morton.

T h e d at e s o f t h e e i g ht matches are November 1, 15, 29, December 13, January 10, 24, February 7 and 21, which obviously alternate with the Primrose Valley fixtures.

As usual all the draws are scheduled for 8.45am at Pete’s Place prior to fishing 10am until 3pm with entry into each match priced at £10.

Full details are available from Nigel on 890776.

Rosedale Lake usually closes for pleasure angling during the winter but thanks to a change of policy by the new owners the fishery will, starting next week, open for four days throughout the winter months from Wednesdays to Saturdays.

The lake will however be closed over the festive season from December 19 until January 6.

Day tickets will be available on the bank priced at £5.

At Sunday’s 14-peg fourth round fixture at Primrose Valley caster hookbaits resulted in several quality roach to 1lb t aking up t emporary resi - dence i n winner Bill Newsome’s keep net.

Drawn in not so unlucky peg 1 3 a c a r pet of f l oat i ng leaves, which are a seasonal nuisance, rendered close in fishing an impossibility and the long pole approach was required to access the clearer water further out.

However, in an effort to focus the fish Newsome potted in micro pellets, hempseed and a few casters and while offering caster on the hook he also located half a dozen s malli s h s ki mmers t o 6oz which helped to boost his final weight to 14lb 3oz.
