James remains unbeaten as Old Boys grab a draw

Dransfield secures a top brace for The Hit Squad

SCARBOROUG­H FLOORING DIVISION ONE BRIDLINGTO­N OLD BOYS THE HIT SQUAD A showcase fixture that featured an unbeaten performanc­e from Brid’s Simon James.

However he had to show off all his fighting qualities to stop a major upset against Guy Whiting.

James found himself two sets to one down and 9-7 in the fourth before staging a fight back to win it 10-12, 11-8, 11-13, 11-9, 11-8.

Whiting was at the top of his game and he won his remaining two rubbers.

Team- mate Ross Dransfield also scored a brace while Richard Dent had to be content with a single after losing to hardened defender Mike Fenby.

The doubles went Brid’s way thanks to the pairing of James and Mark Chajecki who beat Dent and Dransfield in four sets. CORINTHIAN­S B 3 CORINTHIAN­S A 7 The A team had to fight hard to earn their seven points.

Pete Kirk had an impress i ve success over A t eam number one Mark Marshall and added a second against Glen Hodgson.

Man of the match was the unbeaten Dale Symons who had to play at his best for the A team to defeat Kirk and Derek Elliot.

Symons l i kes to dictate play by standing near the table but both opponents never let him dominate.

Other A team scorers were a Marshall brace a single for Hodgson plus a doubles triumph.

The best game of the night was Elliott’s win over Hodgson.

Elliott was facing defeat at 9-5 down only to win the next six points. In the decider he was 7-9 down only to snatch victory from Hodgson. HACKNESS B 4 HACKNESS A 6 A very encouragin­g result for the B team as they come to terms with life in a higher division.

Noel Seery, Chris Found and Ann Seery all had single wins with Ann being involved in two close five-setters.

The pairing of Ann and Noel Seery i n the doubles also provided a winning rubber.

The A t ea m’s re s ponse came from Neil Raine who won all his singles in a very determined and aggressive style.
