Nicholls continues her fine form in Acklam race

Youngsters hit the heights to boost club standings

With some of Scarboroug­h ’s youngsters unavailabl­e, 22 athletes competed at the second round of the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cross Country League, which was held at Acklam.

Those att e ndi ng ac hi eve d some notable individual and team results.

The most successful i ndividual was once again Issy Nicholls, who finished as the runner- up i n the girls’ under-11 race.

Nicholls had to miss the second round due to a conflictin­g triathlon championsh­ip race, but after a win in the opening fixture for 11-yearolds only, she looks set for a top three overall finish.

Issy was followed by Danielle Raw and Gemma Tozer, who ran well to finish in 11th and 22nd in only their second league race.

In the correspond­ing boys’ race, eight-year-old Ben Cross, who won the mile race at the Yorkshire Coast 10k event day, finished in fourth place, but after two previous top finishes is now third overall.

He was followed by Will i am Butterwort­h, who finished 22nd on his second race in the league.

The second highest scorer for the club was Sacha Butterwort­h, who led the girls’ under-15 team to third place, and after fourth place at round, she improved to finish third.

Amy Corcoran a l s o i mprove d t o f i ni s h f i f t h a nd Jemma Casson closed in for the team when finishing up in 16th.

In the correspond­ing boys’ race, Christian Mummert remained i n contention for a second consecutiv­e overall league top-three placing when finishing fourth.

There was a further team success for the club when the girls’ under-13 team, l ed by Livvy Bourne, who was 10th, finished third.

Daisy Willis followed i n 12th and Jessica Raw closed in for the team in 14th. The team was backed up by Daisy’s younger sister Emma Willis, who was 20th.

In the boys’ race, Tali Schuman-Saunders finished up in 13th, and Fred Varley made a good league debut with 19th

In the senior womens’ race, which i ncluded under-1 7s, Emma Clapton led the team home up in 26th overall of 97 and was seventh under-17.

Hester Butterwort­h foll owed i n 3 2 nd a nd f our t h over-40.

Nikki Carr made a very good league debut with 35th overall.

With four to score, Lisa Bourne closed in for the team with a top-half finish of 47th.

The team was backed up by two more league debutants, Helen Rutter and Fay Deben- ham, who were close to finishing in the top half.

Rutter was 50th and Debenham was 52th.

I n t he Mens’ rac e, Paul Chapman was the sole club representa­tive i n a quality race, and finished ahead of some good club runners i n 112th of 161.
