Allanson earns top 10 spot in Northern downhill series
Reuben Allanson, of Richardsons Cycle Club, finished in the top 10 of the Northern downhill mountain bike race series.
Allanson, who competes with ol der te enagers aged 14 to 18 years, said: “It was an awesome day, the tracks were sweet, stages one and two were new and awesome.”
The series f i nale was at Kidland in Northumberland, Reuben’s ninth position on the day earned him sixth place overall in the series, pushing hard at the times of teenagers who were three years older than himself.
Downhill racing requires confidence and superb bike handling skills for riders to stay upright.
The dry conditions at Kidland produced loose soil and stones making skids and slides inevitable as riders plunged down the steep hillside, twisting and turning through trees and over exposed roots.
Next year Allanson plans to compete in national events as well as regional downhill events.
