Scarborough’ s South Bay was packed with huge crowd sat this year’ s popular Gold wing Light Parade.

Scarborough’s South Bay was packed with huge crowds at this year’s Goldwing Light Parade. Thousands of people lined the route along South Bay, Marine Drive and Peasholm Gap to watch the spectacular touring bikes ride by. Around 150 Honda Goldwing bikes and trikes took part with people coming from as far away as Holland to take part. The bikes were decorated with a dazzling array of lights and many played music on loudspeakers as they passed by the cheering crowd. Organiser John Bates said he was delighted with the turnout and thanked everyone for supporting the event, which is run solely by volunteers. Prizes were handed out for the best lit solo Goldwing, which went to Sid Wozniak and best lit trike, which went to Helen Perkins. Sid told The Scarborough News: “I’ve been coming here since 2010 and I love it. It’s really well organised. I’ll keep coming as long as my legs can hold the bike up!” It was also a special night for bride-to-be Rheanon Davies, 25, of Cayton, who was celebrating her hen do. Her auntie Diane Dixon secretly arranged for Rheanon to be a passenger on a trike during the parade. Rheanon, who will get married to Dave Brown at St Mary’s Church next month, said: “It’s been absolutely amazing!” The event raises money for Scarborough RNLI and it is thought that this year’s total will be in the region of £40,000.
