Ciara Murphy, 18 and Dawn Marie Leeming, 40 are accused of stabbing the women in Queen's Parade on August 14.

The injured Scarborough women, aged 34 and 35, were taken to hospital with what were described as serious injuries. The 34-year-old was initially in a critical condition, but both were later discharged from hospital. Murphy, of

Watling Street, Walsall, and Leeming, of Queen’s Terrace, Scarborough, were arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

They were remanded in custody and appeared at York Crown Court via video link today when Murphy pleaded not guilty to two counts of wounding with intent.

Leeming did not enter any pleas after her barrister Chris Dunn said there would be an application to dismiss the charge against her.

Prosecuting barrister Nick Adlington said the CPS was awaiting medical and full witness evidence about the injuries before proceeding with the prosecution and that the charges could be amended depending on the conclusions of a consultant’s report.

Judge Paul Batty QC adjourned the case until October 13, when an application to dismiss the charges against Leeming will be made by the defence, and a directions hearing held in the case of Murphy, whose trial was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

The two defendants had been committed to the Crown Court after making a preliminary appearance at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court in August.

Magistrates heard that the alleged stabbing took place near North Marine Road at about 9.30pm on August 14.

A large area was cordoned off following the incident with police guarding the scene.
