Environment DOES need urgent action

In The Scarborough News recently there was a difference of opinion between a national paper cricket correspondent and a councillor regarding how the town appeared in their eyes.

So I decided to have a stroll around the town and judge for myself.

I soon came to the conclusion that the councillor is in urgent need of a visit to Specsavers.

Victoria Road, North Marine Road can only be described as downtrodden and tatty.

Dean Road looks like a street from the Third World.

Eastborough is absolutely tacky. Huntriss Row and St Nicholas Street were two elegant shopping streets.

The former now has McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and KFC along with other takeaways and empty shops.

The latter is full of what appears to be ‘bang bang’ music pubs and Sky Sports big screen pubs.

The main pedestrian area was attractively paved a few years ago but where it has lifted and/or broken it has been bodged-up with tarmacadam, and to add insult to injury the whole town centre is splattered with seagull droppings.

The one thing Scarborough is blessed with is a glorious view from the south or north bays with the harbour underneath the castle, but unfortunately that will not be sufficient to attract tourists to Scarborough forever.

Over the years it is my opinion the council consisted mainly of men without having vision.
