Matthew has made a major impact

How manager’s supermarket expertise has transformed the fortunes of the Bridlington shop

-

With a retail career spanning more than 29 years, Matthew Wood has made the incredibly fulfilling journey from manager of a Tesco superstore to manager of Saint Catherine’s shop in Bridlington.

Matthew has a real passion for retail and said: “Call it midlife crisis or what you will but I had always wanted to work in a charity shop.

“My wife has worked in one for a long time and thoroughly enjoys it. I knew I would find it a fulfilling career and it would also give me a chance to give something back to a charity in the shape of my 29 years retail experience.”

Matthew, who describes himself as an “out and out trader” has put his valuable experience to good use in the design and layout of the Bridlington shop. “We have new fixtures and fittings and have painted outside ready to cope with the winter weather,” he says.

“We plan to give something back to the community by having a great range of products and clothing at really good prices when we open in October.”

However, Matthew is short of volunteers with excellent customer service skills to help run the new shop. If you can spare a few hours just ring 01723 351421 or email matthew.wood@ st.catherineshospice.org.uk

The Falsgrave, Pickering, Filey and Helmsley shops are also in need of volunteers so if you can help, call in at or telephone the relevant shop or, alternatively, ring 01723 351421.
