A Scarborough man is taking on a 16-mile challenge in aid of a charity that is close to his heart.

Mark Sinclair, 47, is to walk from Bridlington to Scarborough in aid of the British Heart Foundation following the death of his mum, Paula, in 2008.

The freelance radio DJ said: “I just can’t really put into words how upsetting it is to lose your mother.

“I loved her so much and after she passed away with heart problems, I felt like I needed to give something back.”

The Eastfield resident is to walk from the Esso garage in Bridlington to Scarborough Railway Station and has been training hard to be able to complete the 16 miles.

He will be getting a helping hand on his quest to raise £225 by friend 70-year-old Clive Roe.

Clive will be encouraging Mark for the first mile of the walk by playing songs of his favourite band, Abba, who coincidently announced they are reforming after 35 years.

“The music will certainly encourage me to get the first mile out of the way quickly,” joked Mark.

“But I am seriously grateful to Clive for taking time out to give me support to make sure I’ll get through it.”

Mark has already collected £100 from friends and family and is hoping fellow Scarborough residents will help him reach his goal.

He said: “It may not sound like a great deal of money but it means a lot to me and it will mean a lot to the charity.

“They do some fantastic work and I am determined to walk through hail, snow or rain to get to the finish line.”
