A man who amassed a “large library collection” of childporn images has been jailed for 15 months.

David Bonnar, 46, downloaded more than 23,000 indecent images from the internet.

Bonnar was arrested in November 2014 after police swooped on his home in Scarborough and seized laptops, tablets and memory sticks, York Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Chloe Fairley said extreme child porn was found on five of those devices and that Bonnar had scoured the web for the depraved images.

She said Bonnar had stored the images on a memory stick and studiously filed them away in separate ‘picture’ and ‘video’ folders.

Police found a total of 23,106 images on the devices and charged Bonnar with multiple counts of child-porn possession.

Bonnar, from Newborough, initially made denials, claiming he had been searching for images of older teens. He maintained his innocence until pleading guilty on the day of trial earlier this year.

The case was adjourned to last week when Bonnar appeared to be sentenced for 11 counts of possessing indecent material.

Barrister Ms Fairley said Bonnar had downloaded the debauched images over a six-month period and used passwords to try to conceal them.

She said there was a “large number” of victims in the images and videos Bonnar had downloaded.

Bonnar is thought to have used an online alter ego, as well as fake email and bank accounts, to seek out images of child sex abuse.

He claimed he had used the false details to search his family tree on an ancestry website.

Defence barrister Taryn Turner said unemployed Bonnar was a lonely man and was living alone at the time of the police raid.

Judge Paul Batty QC said Bonnar had amassed a “large library collection” of extreme child porn which he described as “loathsome”.

“The vast majority of the children were very young,” added Mr Batty, who rubbished Bonnar’s claim that he had used the fake email and bank accounts to gain credits and widen the search of his ancestral roots.

“Your interest was in child pornography,” said the judge.

As well as the 15-month jail sentence, Mr Batty ordered Bonnar to sign on the sexoffenders’ register for 10 years.

The judge also made a sexual-harm prevention order, which will run indefinitely and restrict Bonnar’s access to the internet. £10 PRIZE WINNERS 079193 075579 073557 040737 026243 046156 069075 057494 088113 000372 060451 046207 035521 046291 037757 059435 030057 076391 048433 020983 041125 000097 039292 002592 006075 087479 043061 011905 045939 052617 020755 088835 026037 073179 025013 046032 051339 010567 066971 081157 036881 012631 029485 033139 028127 081335 036935 034069 030087 080159
