Scarboro’ stars hit record form in championsh­ips

Rising stars home in on success at end-of-season event at the indoor pool

Scarboroug­h and District Swimming Associatio­n Premier League winners Scarboroug­h Swimming Club hosted the end-of-season SaDSA Championsh­ips. Swimmers from 12 clubs from across the district came together to compete for individual medals across two Saturday evenings.

The opening event on the first weekend was the boys 100m freestyle.

Scarboroug­h dominated their age groups with gold medals in all of their events and showed the team strength that helped to retain the title.

Fourteen-year-old Adam Dawson, 13-year-old Joe Kelly and 10-year-old Joseph Moment claimed the first gold medals of the evening.

Kelly was on flying form, going on to excel in all of his events with impressive personal bests, he claimed championsh­ip records and gold medals in both the 200m IM and 50m breaststro­ke.

Moment claimed a championsh­ip record and gold in 100m butterfly with Dawson also following up with a gold in 50m back and 200m IM.

Not to be outdone, the girls were also in competitiv­e form.

Fourteen-year-old nation- al swimmer Amy Corcoran showcased her talent, claiming championsh­ip records and gold medals in all of her events, starting with 100m butterfly and 50m breaststro­ke and ending the gala in style with the 100m IM alongside teammate Phoebe Dawson,14, who finished a strong second to claim the silver.

Eleven-year-old Chloe Holloway swam determined­ly in her events to claim championsh­ip records and gold medals in the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle .

Georgina Calvert, 11, took the gold for the 50m backstroke.

Atlanta Dowkes, 14, won golds in her 100 free and 50m back and 12-year-old Leona Cornforth claimed the gold in her 100m freestyle.

The second weekend brought equal excitement for the spectators and swimmers.

Kelly was once again a formidable opponent, opening his events with a strong swim and huge PB time of 1.17.63 in his 100m breaststro­ke, he smashed the previous record claiming the gold.

Two more strong swims gave him golds in his 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly and finishing the gala, in the final heat of the 100m IM, he went head-to-head with teammate Adam Dawson.

A nailbiting finish separated them by only 0.03 of a second, which saw Kelly again dominate the 13-year-old records and both boys claim a gold in their respective age groups.

Dawson, who also swam strongly, took the championsh­ip record and gold in his 100m backstroke and a gold in his 50m free.

The girls once again took up the challenge and emerging talent, 11-year-old Alexandra Beeson, had a very strong swim in her 200m IM.

She won her heat by almost a length she smashed the previous championsh­ip record by over 11 seconds to claim the gold and backed it up with another strong swim to take gold in her 50m butterfly.

Teammates Georgina Calvert, 11, took the gold for her 50m backstroke and 10-yearold Jessica Constantin­e gold in 100m backstroke.

Phoebe Dawson also claimed a 100m backstroke gold, with Atlanta Dowkes taking the 50m freestyle.

PB swims and medals were earned by the rest of the team: Emily Kelly, 11, Brooke Swiers 12, Cameron Swiers, 14, Sapphia Maccallaug­h, 10 , Emily Priestley, 12 ,Holly Millard 13, Jamie Priestley, 15, Owen Hobkinson, 13, Ben Clarke 14, Matthew Wilson, 11 and championsh­ips debutants Isabelle Trowse, 10, Billy Kelly, nine, Brian Hogg, 11, and Eric Hobkinson, nine.
