In-form Haslam grabs Eureka moment

Six club members competed in the Eskdale Eureka fell race which was the second race of the Esk Valley Fell Club Winter Series.

The race consisted of an eightmile course with 1,500 feet which started and finished in Castleton village and in near perfect conditions continued over Westerdale Moor into Baysdale, Hob Hole and Castleton Moor.

The in-form Sue Haslam, whose last competitiv­e race was when she represente­d England at a Masters Internatio­nal Cross Country event in Glasgow, was the first club member to finish and was also the first Over-60 female finisher.

Ralph Broadley, who was competing in only his first fell race for over 10 years ,was next and the first Over-65 and was followed by Sarah Casey in her first ever fell race and the experience­d Dave Parke, who was the second Over-65 but take an early lead in the age group in the Winter Series.

Guilia Wilkins, who was also competing in her first race over fells, was next and ahead of Melanie Padgham.

Neil Pearcey competed in the Barnsley 10K road race, which was held over a very hilly course around the village of Royston.

Pearcey completed this tough course in 42 minutes and 55 seconds and was up in 113rd of 684 finishers.

Nine club members took on the latest Dalby Forest Parkrun.

Neil Pearcey was the club’s first finisher with fourth overall and the first Over-50.

He was followed by Dale Hepples who was sixth and second Over-40.

Ruth Rutt was next home and led the club’s five females after finishing a close up second female overall for the second consecutiv­e week.

She was followed by Lynzie Fleming in fourth and Jemma Casson was fifth and first 11-14 girl.

Other finishers in order were Glen Shelton 15th, Simon Valente 21st and third Over-60, Alison Hornsby 24th female and Jill Grinstead 27th.

Eleven club members competed in the latest Sewerby Parkrun.

Michael Dowson was the club’s first finisher in 13th and was followed by David Field in 30th and Pete Barnard 31st

Eleven-year-old Amelia Elwick led the six club females in eighth and was also the first in the girls 11-14 age group with a personal best time.

Melanie Padgham was next in 10th and second Over-50 and was followed by Juliette Pilgrim in 17th with a PB.

Other finishers in order were Mike Padgham 51st, Shirley Field 31st and second Over-55, Ciara Harper 36th and second 11-14 girl, Martin Elwick 61st and Mick Thompson 68th and second Over-75

Liz Jones competed in the latest Bromley Parkrun and was pleased to finish up in 386th overall of a large field of 557.

Her time of 31 minutes 14 seconds was her best tine this year at all the Parkruns she competes in.
