There was a return to form for Hackness player James Hodgson, whose treble included an epic win over Noel Seery helped his side to an 8-2 Scarborough Flooring Division One win against Hobnobs. There was also an unbeaten performance from the consistent Gerald Smith, who only dropped one set all night.

Both players were also a winning combination in the doubles.

Shock of the night was the erratic play of Hackness number one Neil Raine, who lost to both Ajay Tandan and Mike Wheatley

There were straight-set trebles for Simon James and Maz Chajecki and a win in the doubles together as high flying

James Builders beat Corinthians B 7-3.

No Corinthian could come to terms with the fast attacking play of James or the clever use of the combination rubbers on Chajecki’s bat.

Replies came from a single each for Pete Kirk, Pete Lee and Trevor Teasdale.

Leaders Corinthians did not have it all their own way in securing an 8-2 win against Nomads.

Nomads Gary Connolly recorded a first-ever win over Mark Marshall 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 9-11, 11-9 and also beat B team stand-in Pete Kirk in straight sets.

Glen Hodgson maintained his good form for Corinthians with another treble plus a doubles triumph with Marshall.

In the Scarborough Floring Division Two, bottomplaced Picadore fought hard for a 5-5 draw with Hobnobs B.

Martin Zammit and Chris Smith took two singles each and won the doubles together.

Hobnobs’ reply came from Ann Seery and Pete Simms, with a brace each, Tom Byrne beat Richard Lloyd 15-13 in the final set after trailing 10-6.

Eastfield Warriors managed to hold the leaders Trinity to a 5-5 draw thanks to a hard fought treble by Piotr Ozon.

Team-mate Paul Lister had a shock win over Moke Warburton

in another five-setter and also won the doubles with Ozon.

Trinity’s reply came from a brace each for Sam Lowe and John Warburton and a single from Moke Warburton.

Scalby Old Boys gave a debut to Division Three player Matthew Rutt and he showed off his potential with a brilliant treble in a 7-3 win against Picadore B.

His match against Picadore’s Steve Atkinson was the top rubber. Both players were involved in long, exciting rallies and it was Rutt who just edged it by taking the deciding set 12-10.

Teammate Matty Whilde was also unbeaten and combined with Rutt to take the doubles.

Picadore’s reply came from singles for Atkinson, Nigel Chandley and Tony Ingham.

Scalby’s young side never got going against Whitby Endeavour.

Only James Biggs offered any resistance, managing a single rubber by defeating Jon Parkinson and taking Barry Davies to five sets.

Whitby’s Graham Cripps and Davies bagged trebles plus a doubles together to go with Parkinson’s brace. An improving Desperatum made Whitby Resulotion fight hard for a 7-3 win in the Glazetech Division Three.

Man of the match was Whitby’s Nick Campbell, who stayed unbeaten and took the doubles with Ken Benford.

The latter also took a brace and Marc Giddins a single.

Delphstone’s reply came

from singles for Denton Guest, Steve Davies and Richard Mirfin.

Eastfield Fusion’s Steve Miller suffered his first loss of the season at the hands of

Delphstone’s new signing Matthew Rutt, who went on to remain unbeaten in a 6-4 win.

Teammates Josh Pickin and Russ Ives gave solid support by adding singles and Ives won the doubles with Rutt.

Fusion’s reply came from a brace each from both Miller

and Daniel Lister. Runaway leaders Bingo McVitie inflicted a heavy 9-1 defeat on a weakened Rogues N Joshers.

Frazer Ives and Isaac Grunwell both played well to hit maximums and Rod Ives was foiled in taking a treble when Rogues, Dominic Grunwell beat him in straight sets.

Jack Louth played his part by pairing up with Isaac Grunwell to win the doubles for the victors.
