National call-up for footballer Bowman

-

Scarborough College student Matthew Bowman has been called up to the England Independent Schools Football Association Under-16s squad.

Proud dad John said: “Late on Sunday evening Matthew received the news of his selection for the National ISFA Under-16s for the forthcoming season.

“The campaign begins on Wednesday December 14 when Matthew will travel down to St George’s Park, England’s national training centre, to represent the ISFA in two games against professional academy sides.”

Having been selected to represent the North of England Independent Schools Under-16s, following trials at Bolton Grammar at the beginning of October, the Scarborough College pupil played in two games at Bury Grammar School on Monday October 24 against Bury, and at Oldham Athletic FC Academy, versus Oldham Under-16s, on Wednesday October 26.

The North ISFA won both games 6-0 and 5-1 with Bowman claiming four assists across the two games from his right wingback position.

The North ISFA then competed against the South of England ISFA in the final trial match of a process from which the National Independent schools side is selected.

This game was contested at Repton School in Derbyshire on November 27, the North coming from behind at half-time to win 2-1 with Bowman, who also plays for Hull City’s Under16s, scoring the winning goal five minutes from time as well as helping to keep Didier Drogba’s son, Isaac, quiet for much of the match.
