Art gallery invites professional and amateur creations

-

Art from both enthusiasts and professionals and reflecting the widespread talent across the Yorkshire coast is to go on display in Scarborough.

Work including graffiti, graphic design, ceramics, stencils and architecture, as well as traditionals paintings, will be on show at Scarborough Art Gallery from Saturday January 21 to Sunday March 12, 2017.

The East Coast Open, which is held every two years, attracts hundreds of entries from artists around the region, both professional and amateur.

The judges this year are York-based artist Mark Hearld, chairman of the Friends of Scarborough Art Gallery Paul McCabe and Scarborough News editor Ed Asquith. They will select the final exhibition choices.

Julie Baxter, Scarborough Museums Trust’s volunteer manager, said: “This is a great opportunity for artists to show their work in Scarborough’s Art Gallery. We want it to be as open as possible, and to give artists the opportunity to display their work.”

Submissions are now being invited. Application forms, guidance notes and rules of entry can be picked up from the Art Gallery in the Crescent or from the Rotunda Museum near the Spa Bridge. They can also be downloaded from the Museums Trust’s website at http://www.scarboroughmuseumstrust.com/east-coastopen-exhibition

Entry to see the exhibition is £3, which includes entry to both Scarborough Art Gallery and the Rotunda Museum for a full year. The gallery is open Tuesdays to Saturdays 10am to 5pm, and free for under-18s.
