YOUNG PEOPLE AWARDS
New borough event to recognise our youth
The Scarborough News and the borough mayor are delighted to launch a new awards ceremony for the area’s young people.
Along with our sister papers the Whitby Gazette and the Filey and Hunmanby Mercury, plus Scarborough Borough Council and sponsor McCain, we are inviting entries for the first ever Young Stars 2017 – the Borough Children’s Awards.
The event is a new version of the successful Borough’s Big Thank You Awards, with the judging and sponsors this year changing to a dedicated family and youth focus instead.
Scarborough Rugby Union Football Club has generously agreed to provide the venue and refreshments for the inaugural event on April 3.
Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough Cllr Simon Green said: “I am delighted that the Youth Awards 2017 is providing a platform for the Borough to recognise the often unseen and unsung efforts of youths and children of all ages. Children often do things for others, either because they need to, or simply want to, which can impact on others’ lives so much in a positive way.
“I am proud to be part of this event and would welcome all to take pride in recognising those who deserve to be recognised, be it for bravery, kindness, heroic actions, or other notable acts of giving.
“Scarborough Borough Council is very pleased to be involved with this event, and we are very much looking forward to receiving what we know will be some very heartfelt nominations.”
Corporate communications manager at McCain, Jennifer Domett, added: “We’re delighted to be supporting Young Stars 2017. The awards are a true celebration of the many amazing youngsters we have in the Borough of Scarborough – and we’re really looking forward to reading all of the nominations.”
McCain will choose and present an extra award, the Max Payne memorial Award.
All the information on this year’s categories and how to enter can be found on the opposite page. You can also nominate online via www.scarborough.gov. uk/youngstars.
Entries for the awards will be featured in editions of The Scarborough News.
