Hackness success
In the Indoor Tennis League’s
Division One, Hackness recorded their first win of the season against Scarborough
B, who have had a good season up until now.
This has been a long time coming for Hackness but worth the wait for a team that has shown some good form and progress over the last nine weeks under the captaincy of Adam Tildsley.
Tildsley’s partner this time was Ekaits Unanue, while Martin Glassett played with Henry Tucker.
Both pairs performed very well to take all the rubbers and take the match 4-0 .
For Scarborough, Paul Jackson played with Sonia Kotzinger and the ever improving youngsters of Marcus Brown and Tom Hunt completed the Scarborough team.
Bridlington continued their unbeaten record with a 4 -0 win over Rudston.
Both Bridlington pairs were in fine form.
The hard-hitting Anthony Purvis was joined by wily veteran Howard Robinson and the equally forceful Dave Revell played with Matt Foley.
Neither pair dropped a rubber to ensure that this week’s match against Scarborough A, who didn’t play this week, will be the decider as to who takes, the Division One trophy.
Rudston had Steve Wilson partnering James Doyle and Phil Edgerton with Andy Worrell.
In Division Two, Scalby had to take their first defeat on the chin against a strong
Scarborough E team. The match was quite a struggle as Scalby fought to retain their unbeaten status, though the second round of matches had to go uncompleted as players turned up for the later games.
As it was, the Scarborough pairs of Mark White partnering Ashley Rawlings and Jon Conyers with Jim Coppack took the rubbers in the first round and both second round matches were left tied so that
Scarborough had the result.
Scalby did not have out their strongest side in the absence of Richard Stacey.
This left Steve McNamara to play with Matt Thundercliffe and new boy Jack Boddy partnering James Draper.
However despite this setback, nobody can catch Scalby for the second division title with one week still to go.
Rudston 2 were up against Bridlington 2.
This was a straight-forward affair for the Rudston side, who took all the rubbers but they had to borrow a Scarborough player for the night in the form of David Hudghton who played with Peter Crawford with Ian Reed and Josh Hirst making up the Rudston team.
For Bridlington Jon Bell partnered Penny Clark and Mike Fell played with Charley
