Scarborough 2nds signed off for the Christmas period with an 8-1 defeat on the road at Thirsk & Malton 3rds.

Both teams where looking to end 2016 on a high, but the away side were only able to field a team of 10 players, which they knew would leave them up against it due to a numerical disadvantage.

It was Scarborough who started on front foot in the opening minutes with several great opportunities, but Jay Meatheringham and Will Palmer were unable to convert.

The home side added two quick goals during the halfway point of the first half, by soaking up pressure and hitting on the counter attack.

Scarborough managed to steady the ship until half-time by frustrating the opposition with their defensive shape.

The second half was a different story as Thirsk & Mal- ton upped the tempo of the match.

This caused Scarborough issues when trying to win back possession.

The home side added three further goals after this through accurate strikes from in the D.

Will Palmer managed to grab Scarborough a consolation goal from a short corner by drag flicking the ball into the left corner.

With only a couple of minutes to go the tank was empty for Scarborough after putting a huge shift in the match.

Thirsk and Malton took full advantage of this by improving their goal difference through adding a further three goals and making it 8-1.

Scarborough captain Tim Erkiert praised the whole teams work effort from the first to last minute.

Man of the match was Josh

Briggs who was standing in as the replacement goalkeeper.

Due to the festive period, there will be no fixtures taking place.

The programme for all the Scarborough teams resumes on January 7 2017 with the mens’ firsts travelling to Harrogate 4ths, the mens’ seconds hosting the City of York 9ths and the Ladies entertaining Halifax 4ths.
