Fire crews to begin three weeks of industrial action
Fire Brigade staff will start industrial action from today in response to concerns the introduction of Tactical Response Vehicles (TRVs) in place of fire engines.
The action, which stops short of striking, will consist of:
· A refusal to undertake any variation to members’ usual contract.
· A refusal to work any pre-arranged overtime.
· A refusal to work any additional hours other than that laid down in a members’ contract.
Steve Howley, North Yorkshire Fire Brigades Union (FBU) brigade secretary, said TRVs will only carry crews of twos and threes instead of the four needed to fight a fire.
