A Scarborough-based company has received royal recognition for its training and development programmes. Dale Power Solutions was one of the first companies in the UK to be awarded with the newly initiated Princess Royal Training Award.

The company is celebrating with 33 other well-known and prestigious UK based businesses including Mercedes-Benz, National Grid and IBM UK.

The City and Guilds Group launched the Awards in January 2016. They were developed in conjunction with employers, learning and development experts and assessors, and endorsed by the City and Guilds Group’s president, The Princess Royal.

Each application was assessed against three ‘Hallmarks of Excellence’ by the Princess Royal Training Awards Commission.

The commission comprised of ten leading figures in the business and learning and development community, as well as HRH The Princess Royal.

The commission saw the company as “An example of how a company undertook succession planning to address the challenges of a remote location and an ageing workforce. The resulting apprenticeship programme is flexible, inclusive and has 100% retention rate – even the CEO is a former apprentice.”

Tim Wilkins, chief executive of Dale Power Solutions, was thrilled to have won the award.

He said: “We are delighted to have been recognised by the Princess Royal Training Awards Commission for our training programme in particular our support of apprenticeships.

“This award is recognition of the hard work, not only by the apprentices themselves, but the whole Dale team, who embrace our apprenticeship strategy and provide the essential support and mentoring, required to achieve success.”

Pat Stringfellow MBE, chair of the Princess Royal Training Awards Commission and Trustee of City and Guilds of London Institute, said: “The clear message we have seen emerging from the awards is that making a strategic link between your training and business goals can lead to amazing outcomes.

“I would like to congratulate all the successful applicants for the Princess Royal Training Awards 2016, and encourage them to share their success and their stories.” Buckets and Spades Day Nursery, based on Victoria Road in Scarborough, recently took part in Elf Day.

The Baby Room children and staff took part in a week long sponsored dance-athon dressed as elves.

Staff and children managed to raise £226.50 for the Alzheimer’s Society. A spokeswoman at Bucket and Spades Nursery, Lindsay Veitch, said: “The children had an elf-tastic time.

“We are all very proud of their achievement this week in raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society charity.”
