School celebrations

-

On December 1 an Advent Mass was celebrated at St George’s RC School. All the children took part in the Mass which was led by parish priest, the Rev Fr Andrew Smith.

The whole school sang Advent hymns, and several children from the senior classes gave readings.

Fr Andrew spoke to the children and in his sermon he explained to them the meaning of Advent. He said it was a time of waiting, and whilst waiting, we must all prepare to celebrate the coming of Jesus in Bethlehem.

Last Thursday all the children and staff went to the church in Moor Lane for an Advent service and Nativity play. Again, the whole school took part in this service where there were shepherds and angels. Two of the younger children arrived as Mary and Joseph, and the Three Kings also appeared from the senior class.

There was a large congregation of parents and friends, and the words of the hymns rang out.
