A Scarborough man described as a “foot soldier acting on behalf of drug dealers” is now behind bars. Tyler Gyte, 20, of Colescliffe Road, was arrested after police found him with 78 wraps of crack worth up to £1,500.

They also seized £340 in cash and a mobile which showed text messages sent between Gyte’s phone and “Business Line One” run by Ansheleena Hamilton, a Birmingham crack dealer who was also jailed following a hearing at York Crown Court.

Prosecutor Nick Adlington said Gyte had sent out a series of “bulk texts” to drug customers “advertising his wares”.

He described Gyte as a “foot soldier acting on behalf of Birmingham dealers”.

On September 25, 2015 - a month after Gyte’s arrest - police stopped a car travelling out of Scarborough in which Hamilton was a passenger.

They seized two mobiles from her and a SIM card for the two “business lines”, as well as £800 in cash.

Analysis of the mobiles led to the arrest of another dealer, Giavin Honeyghan, who had been sending texts to Hamilton. Gyte also admitted conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and a further charge of resisting a police officer at the time of his arrest.

Sentencing Gyte to three years in a young-offenders’ institution, Judge Paul Worsley told him: “You thought this was an easy way to make money and you were greedy. You will now pay the price.”

Detective Constable Andy Hall said the huge demand for crack cocaine and heroin in Scarborough had attracted dealers from Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and London.
