Trying to trace my mum’s old friend, Anne

-

I write to ask if your readers will help me solve a problem for my 90-year-old mother, even though she is from Lancashire.

Mum has recently moved into the village care home in her village of Great Eccleston, and in the move has lost her address book. Mail received at her old home has been handed in at the care home, but she has no way of replying. She particularly wants to contact the widow of a very old friend of my father’s who lives in Scarborough.

My father George Wood (known all his life as Monte) was born and raised in Knaresborough, where he had a good friend, Jeff (or Geoff ). Jeff worked on the railways for a time, and after marrying Anne, they moved to live in Scarborough possibly in Scalby, where their two daughters were born.

I think Jeff may have worked for the Rowntree Foundation as a gardener, and was certainly a prize winning plantsman and gardener over many years, even though, mum tells me, his home and garden were built on a very steep slope.

My parents would meet up with Jeff and Anne whenever they holidayed in Scarborough and had lovely meals and long chats together.

Sadly, as mum has got older her once excellent memory has suffered, and she cannot recall their surname of address.

I have heard many stories of Jeff and dad’s youthful exploits all my life, but I don’t remember ever meeting Jeff. It would be lovely if anyone recognises Anne and/or Jeff from the above details and feels able to contact me. My name is Barbara Moor (nee Wood) and my phone number is 01253 728047. My address is 18 Sandhurst Avenue, Lytham St Annes, Lancashire FY8 2DA.
