The bloom group held its annual general meeting, those present were Bryan Bolton, Vi Carling, Peter Hemmingham, Sheila Johnson, Carol Robinson and Gill Sowman.

Minutes of the 2016 annual meeting were agreed – proposed by Bryan Bolton and seconded by Carol Robinson. Bryan Bolton presented his financial report as at September 30, 2016. The chairman thanked Bryan Bolton for his hard work and gave special thanks to WG Martin for auditing the books.

Statement from the chairman who wished every one a Happy New Year. The group has once again maintained its high standard of service to the village throughout the past year. New shrubs have been planted and bulbs renewed along with other plants. The group was awarded the ‘Most Colourful Village in Scarboroug­h’ at the Scarboroug­h Borough Council’s Muck and Magic Awards in September.

The Christmas fair was again a successful event and the support to the group by the number of items given as prizes for the tombola was overwhelmi­ng and much appreciate. The group also appreciate the cash donations given by residents, which will be well spent to further enhance the ambience of the village.

New members are still being sought to increase the very small number of volunteers still active in the group. Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month in the community centre at 7pm. If any residents wish to help in any way please come along.

We are looking forward to the return of the repaired boat to the boat bed, which has been well-maintained during the refurbishm­ent, and appropriat­e planting will be made to enhance the maritime theme. We appreciate the help and advice we received from the Borough Council through Sheila Johnson and Roger Burnett who are in constant touch with the Group to help with any problems.

The committee of 2016 was dissolved and then reinstated unopposed. Chairman Peter Hemmingham, secretary Gill Sowman, treasurer Bryan Bolton and Head of Works Gill Sowman.

Date of next annual general meeting will be January 31, 2018, at the community centre at 7pm.

The next meeting will be on February 22 at 7pm in the community centre. Pollon and Mary Jackman.

The next service on February 26 at 7pm will be led by the Rev Mary Jackman.
