WAtEr grEAt visit for EthiopiAns!
Two Ethiopian water utility delegates have visited Scarborough and Pickering as part of Yorkshire Water’s unique ‘Big Wish for Ethiopia’ campaign.
Manaye Siyoum from WaterAid, and Zelalem Assefra from Debre Tabor Water Utility in Ethiopia, have been finding out how Yorkshire Water supplies quality drinking water and treats the waste water.
A Yorkshire Water spokesman said: “During their visit Yorkshire Water staff took them sightseeing to visit the beach and experience fish and chips for the first time.” Thereareseveralrolesonoffer, including a new role of dementia activity volunteer.
Dementia activity volunteer roles are flexible in agreement with the ward.
It can involve as little as a few hours for a day or as much as several days a week.
Kay Gamble, volunteering manager, said: “We’re very excited to introduce the new volunteering role to help patients with dementia. It is based on creating recreational or leisure activitiestohelpimprovephysical,emotionalandpsychological wellbeing.
“We are looking for volunteers with interests that they can bring to the role. It might be to encourage reminiscence or get patients involved in arts and crafts. Music, drama, games, reading, or personal care such as health and beauty are all activities that play a valuable part in creating diversional therapy.”
There will be a compulsory training day for the dementia activity role on Friday 31 March at Scarborough Hospital.
