New season

-

Scarborough Art Society begins its 80th year with a new season of art demonstrations on March 1 at Queen Street Methodist Central Hall worship area.

In subsequent months the lower hall will be the regular venue where state-of-the-art projection equipment offers a clear view of any artist at work. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month from March to November, and last two hours starting at 7pm. Refreshments are served.

The 2017 programme offers how-to-do-it tips using watercolour, acrylic, oil and pastel. Pastels are the forte of Susan Maud who opens the season in March with ‘Capturing a Likeness’.

‘Industrial Landscapes’ with Philip Boville fills the April slot – his background is in steel making and his unique hot work is widely admired.

Elizabeth Nast follows in May with ‘Cityscapes and People’ depicted in oils. In June Andy Broderick will use watercolour to portray ‘Art in the Wild’.

In July the secretary of Scarborough Art Society Barrie Petterson will use the “new” interactive acrylics made by Atelier to illustrate narrative painting - ‘How to Paint a Story’.

August offers a warm welcome to Paul Talbot Greaves and he will show how to paint a ‘Dynamic Acrylic Landscape’. In September Christine Pybus plans to use oils to create a ‘Winter Scene’. October sees the visit of a yet to be announced artist who will conduct the society’s annual critique session, when members and guests bring along their own work for positive and encouraging assessment.

A full programme has already been booked for 2018. New names and faces will offer ways of painting and subjects not previously offered by the society.

New subscription members are welcome – and guests attend any session paying only £3 for admission. More information on 01723 314200.
