Mitchell and Usher take Charity Pairs glory

-

This year’s 13th Annual Charity Pairs Tournament attracted 29 pairs from all over Ryedale and Scarborough competing for the £200 winning prize, and again the quality of darts was of a very high standard.

In the best of five board one final, Scarborough pair Graham Usher and Olly Mitchell powered to a 3-0 victory over Steve Taylor and Rich Webster, hitting three 140s and 125s, two 100s for legs of 24, 27, and 22 darts to average a superb 86.43.

The board two final went the way of Simmy Cass and Mike Linsley 3-0, Simmy rounding off the win with a 100 finish.

The board three final went the way of Scarborough pair and previous winners Gench Elvidge and Jim ‘The Commissioner’ Gordon 3-0 as they opened with four ton-plus scores and a 20-dart leg, followed by legs of 27 and 28 darts to average 84.12.

The board four final provided a very tight contest going all the way to leg five.

Eric Robinson and Chick Croft took an early lead but Billy Hague countered with the highest finish of the day hitting 122 to put him and Lawrence Hopps 2-1 up.

Robinson and Croft levelled in 29 darts and opened leg five with a maximum 180, but Hopps held his nerve, taking out 65 to secure the win with the opposition sat on double top.

The first semi-final saw Scarborough teammates Usher and Mitchell pitted against Gordon and Elvidge.

Usher and Mitchell proved too strong, hitting five ton plus scores - a 140, and two maximum 180s, to win 3-0 with legs of 23, 29, and 24 darts to average 83.01.

The second semi-final saw Cass and Linsley open with a 28-darter, Hague and Hopps levelled in a scrappy second leg.

In leg three Cass and Linsley hit three 100-plus, a 139 for a 24-darter and secured a 3-1 victory in leg four with some steady darts.

Usher and Mitchell started the final at a fast pace, hitting two 100s, two 121s and a 139 for an opening 22-dart leg.

They followed up with two 140s for a 27-dart second leg, and in leg three hit a 25-darter and rounded off a comfortable 4-0 victory in 26 darts to claim the prize.

Usher hit a maximum 180 in leg four to average 84.12 in the final.
