Alexander hat-trick helps Heslerton to first win
Billy Bown’s Heslerton grabbed their first win of the season at the 11th attempt after beating FILO 7-4.
Heslerton raced into a 5-0 halftime lead against a lacklustre FILO side as Danny Alexander hit a double, with Tony Cass and Dan Blanchard also finding the back of the net.
FILO boss Les Brown read the riot act during the interval and it seemed to galvanise his side as they quickly raced back to 5-4 after the break as Luke Storr grabbed a brace and James Organ-Simpson and Dave Welham scored to set up a tense finale.
The hosts hit back though with two more goals to seal a 7-4 win, Alexander wrapping up his hat-trick and Keaton Watson also scoring.
Heslerton boss Bown said: “We were terrific in the firsthalf, we lost a bit of intensity in the second half but I’m over the moon with our first win of the season.”
A frustrated Brown said: “The team need to have a good look at themselves because we are a lot better team than we are showing.”
Table-toppers West Pier extended their lead after beating a depleted Ayton side 4-2.
Ayton played the majority of the game with just nine men after several of their players failed to show up.
They somehow managed to take the lead though, Danny Appleby volleying in superbly.
It was 1-1 at the break, Rich Tolliday levelling matters up.
Pier found a second gear after the break and went ahead through Mikey Anderson’s strike before Martin Cooper made it 3-1.
Ayton managed to get a 10th player and then made it 3-2, a defensive error allowing Sam Pallant to nip in and apply the finishing touch.
Tolliday grabbed his second and Pier’s fourth to put the game to bed at 4-2.
Pier boss Jamie Towse singled out Anderson and Tommy Barker, while Plumpton praised his depleted side.
“It’s so frustrating as we played with nine and then 10 men against the team at the top of the league and didn’t look out of place,” he said.
“I’m more frustrated at the lads who failed to show up rather than the players who turned up and had to work
much harder.” Trafalgar remain in the title hunt after a 7-1 win at Fylingdales.
Nick Ellis opened the scoring right from the kick-off as he advanced with the ball and finished well with the away side’s first attack.
Liam Salt then took over the goalscoring responsibilities as he smashed in the next four goals for Col Jenkinson’s side to make it 5-0 and kill the game off.
It was 6-0 at the break after Ellis bagged his second.
Salt netted his fifth and Traf ’s seventh after the break before a late consolation from the hosts wrapped things up.
Five-goal hero Salt was the star man, while Jenkinson also oraised the performances of Georgie Rose, Curtis Rose and sub Jimmy Beadle.
Cayton v Roscoes Bar was postponed.
In Division Two, the top two both collected wins.
Champions Angel had to battle back after a sloppy start to beat Crown Tavern 5-2.
James Burrows struck to put Tavern into a surprise lead as Angel made a sluggish start to proceedings.
Back fired Dan Jones’ side though and Ben Mason headed them back on level terms after getting on the end of a corner.
It was soon 2-1 to the table-toppers, sub Macauley Youngson beating a number of Tavern defenders before finishing well.
Angel led 3-1 at the break, Joe Gallagher smashing in the goal of a game with a thunderous free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards.
Bridlington Town striker Jake Day found the net after half-time to give Tavern hope, but Lloyd Henderson went on a solo run before finishing well just minutes later to re-assert Angel’s dominance.
The scoring was wrapped up with a fortuitous Dave Bell goal to end things at 5-2.
Boss Jones singled out the midfield trio of Henderson, Gallagher and Jackson Jowett as his star men. Scalby edged to a 2-0 victory at Ayton Reserves to stay in second spot.
Brandon Diston and Alfie Cotterill fired in the goals for Lee Dolan and Mark Eyres side, who have impressed in their first season in senior football.
Matty Bourne and Tyler Beck were the star men for the Otters.
