Youngson shines in Pindar loss

-

Hackness just got over the line in their 6-4 Scarborough Flooring Division One victory against Pindar.

This was thanks to a brace each from Gerald Smith, James Hodgson and Moke Warburton.

Top player on show was Pindar’s Macauley Youngson whose competitive edge was rewarded with a treble.

He then combined well with Nigel Clapham to take the last two sets in a compelling doubles match.

The relegation dogfight witnessed another rescue act from Pete Kirk, who bagged a treble and secured a vital doubles win with Ed Wardman as

Rolo edged out Hobnobs 6-4. Kirk had to fight hard against Mike Wheatley, taking the final two sets 11-9, 1210. Wardman played his part with a welcome brace.

Hobnobs’ reply came from a Noel Seery brace and singles for Wheatley and Ajay Tandan.

Julian James was the key player in the close-fought dual between James Builders and Rolo, which finished all square at 5-5.

He was involved in two five-set marathons, the first saw him lose narrowly to Sam Lowe 11-9 in the decider, but he reversed the score against Matty Lowe in another energysapping contest.

Rolo’s Martin Lowe took a treble and a win partnering son Sam.

Simon James and Maz Chajecki both took two wins for the Builders.

Struggling Scalby were no match for Hobnobs B in their 10-0 Scarborough Flooring Division Two loss.

Only Luke Howland got near to winning a rubber as Hobnobs experienced trio, Allan Thurling, Ann Seery and Derek Harris all took trebles with the latter two winning the doubles. Eastfield Warriors were caught in a Trinity maelstrom as they were beaten 10-0. They had no answer to Moke Warburton, Sam Lowe and John Warburton, who completed impressive trebles for the title favourites.

Eastfield’s Piotr Ozon was their best player, taking John Warburton to a deciding set before losing it 12-10.

Lowe and Moke Warburton combined to win the doubles and complete the score.

Picadore B’s Steve Atkinson was on fire to shock all his three Trinity opponents, by just dropping two sets all night, but his side still lost 7-3.

It was to be his team’s only wins.

Sam Lowe, John and Moke Warburton all won their remaining rubbers.

Roy Lowe played a cameo role in the doubles, partnering grandson Sam to a four-set doubles win.

In the Glazetech Division Three, Liberators came up against a strong Whitby Resolution and could do nothing to stop Nick Campbell and Stuart Hurworth winning all their rubbers in straight sets and taking the doubles together in a 9-1 success.

It was left to Brian Goodliffe to stop the whitewash. He defeated Ken Benford in five sets, leaving his opponent to have to settle for a brace.
