BORO JUNIORS ROUND-UP
Scarborough Athletic Under-15s visited Hessle Harriers and played out a thrilling encounter after a minute’s silence had been observed to honour club chairman Dave Holland.
Hessle started brightly but it was B or ow ho opened the scoring when Fin lay Marsh fired in an unstoppable 35-yard freekick for 1-0.
Lewis McGrath was next to try his luck with a curled freekick which the keeper did well to tip over the bar.
Hessle had the next chance of note when they were awarded a free-kick for a back-pass in the Boro box.
The resulting free-kick was fired over from close-range.
The home team equalised just before the break with their own spectacular freekick from long-range to make it 1-1 and then took the lead eight minutes into the second half when a well-worked move was finished smartly into the bottom corner 2-1.
Going behind seemed to galvanise Boro, who rolled up their sleeves, Jake Standing seeing a couple of shots narrowly miss the target as they went in search of an equaliser.
Tom Wright then saw the home keeper tip his free-kick onto the the bar and out for a corner.
Zam Deans then had a great chance to equalise, but fired into the side netting.
With seven minutes remaining Kane Randerson-Wray’s corner was volleyed home by Wright to make it 2-2.
Both teams were searching for the winner and Cameron
Anderson had to react quickly to gather the ball when Hessle looked sure to score.
There was to be lastminute drama though with two minutes of injury-time played as Deans’ accurate pass found Wright, whose deft turn and cool left-foot strike won the game for Boro. Scarborough Athletic
Under-13s played host to Shiptonthorpe United.
After a scrappy opening 15 minutes it was the visitors who took the lead when a free-kick was swung in and was powerfully headed home by a Shiptonthorpe forward.
Just before half-time Liam Love drilled the ball across the keeper’s path to the far post, where Caleb Sheader was on had to neatly put it away to make it 1-1 at the break.
Boro started well early in the second half and soon found themselves in the lead when Charlie Wright played a great ball into Love, who hit an unstoppable shot into the far corner.
The hosts soon had a twogoal cushion when Oliver Hesketh fought off the challenges of three Shiptonthorpe defenders and crossed to Nathan Dolphin, who tucked it into the corner of the net.
Shiptonthorpe battled back in the last 15 minutes and pulled a goal back with five minutes to go, but Boro hung on to win the match 3-2. Scarborough Athletic Under-12s played at Hedon Rangers on Sunday.
Boro started the game at full throttle despite only having eight players.
A handful of chances created in the first few minutes by Boro were either well saved or flew wide of the target.
But the wait for a goal wasn’t long as some good football played out from the back through the midfield found-winger Alfie Kendell, who laid the ball off on the edge of the area for Jack Blakemore to lash home into the top corner to make it 1-0.
Soon afterwards, forward Frazer Ives ran onto a throughball from Ashton Peterson to calmly slot in and double Boro’s lead.
Chances continued in the first half with Boro playing some excellent football.
The second half started much the same with Scarborough enjoying most of play and chances going begging.
Then it was Hedon’s turn to get on the front foot, with some direct play and running in behind the tiring Scarborough defence, they started to create chances, but Seb Smith in goal for Athletic pulled off three top-drawer saves in the space of five minutes to keep Boro leading.
As the game went and with no subs available for Boro, Hedon took control in the last 15 minutes, scoring three wellworked goals.
Scarborough still had chances to level and even win the game in the last three minutes, but some good defensive work on the line and a goal ruled out after a tight offside meant Athletic went home without the points after a narrow 3-2 defeat.
Tom Brackenbury scored for Boro Under-16s asthey lost 4-1 to Westella & Willerby.
After conceding two early penalties, Boro got back into game with one goal at the beginning of the second half, but Westella proved too strong and ran out deserved victors.
