Clapton is the cream as she leads women to victory

Scarboroug­h Ladies top the charts at Sewerby cross country event

Thirty club members competed in the final fixture of the East Yorkshire Cross Country

League, held on a very muddy course at Sewerby.

The ladies achieved the best team and individual performanc­es, coming second on the day and they were also the the overall runner-up behind a very strong City of Hull team.

The women’s team was once again led home by Emma Clapton, who was second female overall, and finished her first season in this league for mostly senior athletes in third place overall.

Hannah Mainprize finished up in seventh, while Anna Martin closed in for the team in 13th.

The men’s team was led by Chris Duck who was 10th and second Over-40 and ended his season as 2nd overall in his age group.

He was followed by Kevin Moment in 26th and third Over-45 and Richard Maw 27th and fourth Over-45.

Dale Hepples ended his first season in the league after competing in all six races up in 32nd and he was followed Glyn Hewitt in 38th.

Andy Curtis closed in for the team in 42nd as they finished sixth on the day and overall.

Three of the club’s female’s members were persuaded to compete in a cross country league race for the first time at this final meeting.

Dawn Trown ran alongside her sister Jennie Trown, and they finished in 31st and 32nd respective­ly.

Katie Webster had a notable debut finish in 35th.

The other prize winners were: Mark May second Over-50, Mally Sweetlove second Over-65, Fay Hethershaw first Over-40, Lisa Bourne first Over-45, Carina Pelluci second Over-45, Jayne Graves second Over-50 and Shirley Field first Over-55.

Other female results: Fay Hethershaw 15th, Lorraine Hewitt 18th, Lisa Bourne 22nd, Jayne Graves 23rd, Carina Pelluci 28th, Lisa Baker 29th, Sally Kingcott 30th. Sam Shepherdso­n 34th, Heather Westron 43rd, Shirley Field 43rd.

Other male results: Dave Shipley 49th, Paul Chapman 57th, Mark May 59th, Chris Bourne 60th, David Field 63rd, Glenn Shelton 65th, Mally Sweetlove 66th James Boak 76th.
