Scarborough Gymnastics Academy competitive section have had a successful weekend at the Northern Teamgym qualifiers in Edinburgh.

The level of Teamgym is constantly increasing, clubs from the north of England and Scotland showed huge improvements from all teams taking part.

The competition had a great atmosphere with the largest audience ever at a northern event and all the clubs were supportive of each other.

Scarborough was represented by six teams which is the most SGA has put out in the 12 years the club has been competing in the British Qualifiers.

The first competition of the day was the Challenge Level Four event.

Scarborough was represented by a Mixed and Girls Team aged nine to 11.

Both teams had a fantastic competition with the girls team winning gold with a huge score of over 40.40 and the mixed team putting on a fantastic performance and narrowly missing the medals by 0.2.

This was the first time many of the gymnasts had competed in a full team event and the competition was a fantastic achievement for both teams.

The second competition of the day was the Youth Level Three section.

The club’s competitive section was represented by a Women’ s and Mixed team aged between 10 and 14.

Both competitions were very close with the the mixed team winning gold and the women’s team scooping silver.

Again this was some of the gymnasts’ first experience of a national competition and was not only great experience but making the medal podium topped of the day.

The last competition of the day was the Junior Men’s Micro aged 13-17 and the Senior Women’s Micro aged over 16.

The competition was very strong but with both teams performing high difficulty routines, the Junior Team secured the championships title in their section and the Senior Women were placed a fantastic second.

Coach Nikii Walker said: “Well done to everybody who took part and thank-you to the amazing coaches who have prepared the gymnasts for the event. Also thank-you to the parents and supporters for their ongoing commitment and support.

“Everybody at the club is so proud of all the hard work and dedication that was put in from the gymnasts and coaching team to achieve these amazing results.”
